Most people don't have a reading problem. They have a starting problem and a stopping problem. Here is a gentle system that works for short, practical books like ours.
1. Decide what you want from it
Before page one, write a single sentence: "After this book I want to be able to ___." Keep it on a sticky note. It turns reading from a task into a mission.
2. Schedule twenty minutes, not a weekend
A short guide is 40 to 60 pages. At twenty minutes a day, you finish in under a week. Pick a fixed time: right after coffee, or on the commute.
3. Read with a pen
Underline one idea per chapter. At the end of each chapter, write the one thing you will try. If the book has a workbook, do it right away.
4. Do the smallest version today
Don't wait until you've finished. Apply one idea the same day, even badly. That is how a book changes your life instead of your shelf.
5. Close the loop
When you finish, write three lines: what you learned, what you did, what's next. You will remember it for years.
